Typography in Orbit
This field guide explores the intersectionality of graphic design, science, research, and Artificial Intelligence. It is a collection of work produced for my Typographic Systems class, which was certainly not what I expected it to be—something that is always good when you’re a student. Rather than being a traditional typography class, focusing strictly on magazines, type on the web, and other more standard assignments, I was pushed to think like a scientist (as much as a graphic designer can). We talked about ethics of AI, especially in relation to science and misinformation and how to carefully incorporate it into our practice as designers. We discussed the importance of fully understanding the subject of your design and knowing your audience. This class forced me to think about design in ways that I never have, in ways that are more unique than simply looking at branding and logos.
